Apart from a few people, a long drive without some vibes in the background can be tortuous. Now, a lot of folks spend between 1 – 2 hours driving daily. That’s between half a year and one full year if you keep this up for 12 years.

Therefore, it is quite a sensible move to make your time on the road as enjoyable as you can within safety boundaries.

There are numerous options when setting up a car audio system. You can go mild or you can go to the other extreme. Here are the most important things to consider when piecing together a system…

Who will be using the car?

Is this a family car? Who and who makes up this family? What are their ages? What are their music preferences?

Important questions because if this is a family car and you have a pregnant wife, you may have adjust for her health and the unborn baby’s.

For what will this car be used primarily? Just commuting to and from the office? Unless you work in the show biz industry, you’ll certainly require something that’s less showy.

What are the legal provisions in your state or country? Yes, there are a few stuff that are not allowed in some areas. For example, FM transmitters are outlawed in some places. You certainly will have to set up your system without them.

And, finally, how much bucks do you have to spend?
It will be painful to spend so much on, say, an amp and them discover that you can’t really afford the right speakers for it. If you had taken the time, you would have spent just what you could afford on the amp and then got the right speakers without breaking the bank.

If you’ve had problems with controlling your kids on those long cross-country drives, you’ll certainly appreciate the difference that a car DVD can make on your next trip.

A car DVD ensures that your kids have enough entertainment while yourself and your spouse have some quiet. I don’t know if you’ve had the privilege of being a passenger in a vehicle that’s equipped with a good DVD system.

Here’s what happens…

You simply forget about time as you’re immersed in entertainment. The monotony of counting the milestones changes to watching that movie your busy schedule never allowed.

For most of us, it is killing two birds with a stone. I guess if we, adults, like the entertainment that an incar DVD provides plus the boredom it drives away, then children will certainly love it a lot more.

Try it. Install one before your next trip (And get their favorite DVDs) and you’ll see a lot of unruliness disappear.

There’s certainly a car DVD player that will fit your tastes and purse. Look around online there are great stores that will give you great deals.

However, I must chip in that you must ensure you install it in a position that does not compromise your safety and your passengers’.

This is a personal opinion: Unless your DVD display doubles as a navigation display, don’t install it in the dash. I guess it matters a lot to me because I am a very visual person. I can easily get engrossed in a visual event. And, I guess that’s not great when you’re the driver.

So if you’re like me, it is best to have it installed for your passengers (For me, that does not include the front seat passenger). There are laws that forbid certain positions. Check to ensure you’re not breaking the law.

In the last few months China has ended some of their subsidies for automobiles, and they’ve also made it tougher for US automobile manufacturers to sell cars in the country. This is a slap in the face, especially with all of the products we let come from China into the US. Some say this is a tit-for-tat move on China’s part because of the animosity, and divisive political comments against China in the US media. Now then, I’d like to talk about this for a moment if I might.

We are obviously in a presidential election year, and the issue of outsourcing American jobs, and the huge trade deficits we have which do affect our economy are at an all-time high. We should expect that, and if we had a Republican president in office then the Democrats along with their unions would attack that side of the political spectrum. Today the tables are turned, but it doesn’t matter it’s still an issue with all Americans. This time people are firing at the Obama Administration for failed economic policies and the anger is pointing to these issues of unbalanced trade.

Will our differences ever be settled? It’s doubtful, it is doubtful that the United States and China will ever come to terms on everything simultaneously, and if that were to occur, I am certain, most certain actually as are the members of our think tank – that things would change the next day. Our economies are too large and our politic to diverse with too many differences of opinions and different directions, and add in all the money flow and vested interests, and there can never be 100% agreement. So they agree to disagree, which is better than agreed upon political impasse which could lead to well, the unthinkable.

Okay so, this could impact General Motors, and even as a sell more cars the United States, China is a nice emerging economy to sell vehicles into. Likewise, Ford wants to sell more vehicles in India, who wouldn’t, each of those countries has over 1 billion people, and as their middle-class is expands, more people can afford cars. Still, if we can’t sell cars in China, maybe we can sell them in Saudi Arabia. Oh, but you say; women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. Yes, that’s true today, but the tide is shifting, and even the King has stated that eventually women will be allowed to drive.

Plus, the King will soon turn over the kingdom to his half-brother, and he will wish to keep everyone happy, especially as women will soon be allowed to vote as well. There was an interesting article by Ellen Nickmeyer on February 7, 2012 in the Wall Street Journal titled “Saudi Women, in a Shift, Sue for the Right to Drive,” and whereas this challenge could be defeated, at least this time, it shows the ever ongoing and increasing push for women’s rights in the kingdom. Can you imagine the number of cars that Saudi Arabia would want if women could suddenly be allowed to drive?

And, they will not just want to drive any cars, they will want to drive American cars, because we make the best cars in the world, and everyone in Saudi Arabia knows that. In fact, if it wasn’t for all the cars the United States the kingdom would be so rich in the first place, and they know that. They also realize that with our huge trade deficit buying oil that that money needs to be reciprocated flowing flow back to the United States to keep it running around in a trade circle. It’s good for them and their economy, and their future, and it’s definitely also good for US automakers. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on.

Cherished, Personalised, DVLA prefix number plates. Call them what you like, but there are 5 types of Personalised number plates for sale which includes Irish registrations. They are, in chronological order, Cherished number plates which were original issued from 1901 until 1963. Suffix number plates which have a year letter at the end of the plate that were issued from 1963 until they ran out of letters in 1983. Then DVLA issued prefix numbers from 1983 until August 2001 and more recently the style of plate is the new-style of registration number.

The most popular of these styles is undoubtedly the prefix style plate. The reason is simple. When the DVLA first became active in the sale of private plates, this was the type of plate that was being issued at that time. As a result, they kept all the attractive numbers like 1 to 20 back from release to garages so that they could sell them to the public. After 12 months most of the popular combination of letters had sold so the DVLA decided to keep an even larger selection of numbers for sale. Numbers like 22, 33, 44 and so on. This meant that they now had almost three times the number of registrations for sale.

These days, the new-style plates are being released for sale every six months and whilst there are hundreds more combinations for sale, the prefix style plates still outstrip the new-style sales by three to one proving that they are still the most popular style of number plate on sale today.

The cherished registrations were, and still are, the most revered of private plates. The very early single number and single letter registrations will always look amazing on any car. The likes of A 1, the first registration issued, to V 1 and Y 1 that are amongst the last, can’t help but turn heads whenever they are seen.

Prefix registrations have made a somewhat late appeal to the public who want that something different without spending a great deal. They are more appealing than a DVLA prefix registration but they are not so widely available as it was during the period when they were being issued that the non year letter cherished number plates became desirable. As a result many of the prefix style plates seen on sale today originate from the DVLA auction.

The recent new-style DVLA number plates that will appear on all new cars for around another 40 years don’t really inspire much interest unless they spell a word or name like BR15 TOL or PR05 PER. Only then will they really be worth more than their original sale price.

The Private Plate Company are one of the longest trading private number plate dealers in the UK. Their success is attributed to their ability to provide quality private number plates at sensible prices in the quickest possible time.

Ladder racks are flat open framework that needs to be mounted on top of a vehicle, especially on pickup trucks. They are used to carry various loads. This includes long pipes, boards, tools, logs and timber. They can be mounted to create a roof framework that supports cargo and baggage. They have integrated locking systems that keep the load from falling off during transition.

Most cargo van ladder racks are constructed from durable, lightweight and rustproof aluminum. They require minimum maintenance and are easy to clean. Most of the racks include adjustable arms that can be fitted into most vans. Other varieties have racks of optimal widths, to fit on regular vans and mini vans. The fixing of the ladder rack onto the van is an easy task, as most of them come with a mounting hardware and step by step visual guides. The rack can be easily installed on top of the van, within a few minutes.

In addition to plain aluminum racks there are racks available in many different colors to match the panels or other trim of the van. A ladder rack’s weight capacity depends on its size and make. However, 300 lb is the weight limit for most of them because of the limited structural strength of the van roof. It is important to check a manufacturer’s credibility before making a purchase. This helps to find an authentic product and prevents freak accidents caused by ladder racks caving in. Some cargo van ladder racks offer two different types of mounting gear for vans, with and without drip wells. It is essential to balance the features, capabilities and cost of a ladder rack, along with the use it will be put to. If a rack requires any alteration, it should be specified at the time of purchase.

The automaker’s decision to wipe out minivans was triggered by its poor performance in said segment. In view of said eradication, the automaker is planning to create a new class coined as ‘people movers’. The latter will be based on Fairlane which debuted at the 2005 Detroit auto show.

On one hand, a Lincoln version for said model is contemplated to be produced by the automaker. The concept and platform of the new car was based on Five Hundred sedan and Freestyle crossover utility vehicle.

This year the sales of Freestar vehicles dropped by 20 percent. Mercury Monterey, its sibling, slumped by 40 percent. Moreover, Ford has finally decided to end the production of minivans. Monterey has ended its production since August this year. Freestar, on the other hand, will follow in the spring of 2007.

Ford Freestar is quite similar to Monterey. In its 2007 version, Freestar is given 6 new exterior colors. Said colors are available for its 3 models – SE, SEL and Limited. Also, a cargo van is made available by the automaker.

On its exterior, the vehicle uses sophisticated Ford Freestyle parts which include body-colored grille for SE model, chrome grille and 16-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels for SEL. Limited, on one hand, is given chrome exterior trim, 16-inch chrome wheels, power sliding doors and heated signal mirrors with puddle lamps.

Freestar’s interior accommodates 7 occupants. It features fold-and-tumble second-row bucket seats, controllable third-row seat, bigger cargo space, covered compartment on top of the dashboard. SEL and Limited models are equipped with compass, conversation mirror, readouts for outside temperature and auxiliary buttons for the sliding doors (if installed). Freestar is also given 9 cupholders. The front-door cupholder is capable of holding 20-ounce beverages. Aside from that Freestar is also equipped with standard equipment such as CD player, cruise control, tire pressure monitoring system, power locks, remote keyless entry and more. The SEL model is given a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls.

Under the Ford Freestar hood is a 194-horsepower, 3.9-liter V-6, which is standard for SE model. On the other hand, 4.2-liter V-6 is given to both SEL and Limited models. These engines are incorporated to come up with an energetic and powerful performance.

This vehicle first made its way to public knowledge in 1989. It was constructed to be a rear wheel drive vehicle. Later on in 2000, it came back with a more modern front wheel drive. Originally, the Mazda MPV was designed in its every minute detail as a minivan. This was destined to be sold to the American market.

The Mazda MPV was first constructed using Mazda’s best platform that time. The company used the Mazda 929′s HC to be able to develop and start out the Mazda MPV’s LV platform. Later on in the design and construction process for this vehicle, the Mazda MPV was equipped with a V6 engine and an optional all wheel drive. This vehicle features traditional hinged doors instead of the sliding rear doors.

Making waves with the press, the Mazda MPV then earned its way to being named a part of the Car and Driver magazine’s Ten Best list for two consecutive years – 1990 and 1991. This magazine also featured the Mazda MPV as one of their “vehicles for the coming (fuel) crisis”. However, on the other hand, the Mazda MPV made a big unwanted splash with crash testers. Out of the four stars that a vehicle could receive from the Australian ANCAP crash test, the Mazda MPV only received one little star. As for the American IIHS crash tests, the vehicle received a poor “Marginal” rating. The sales for this vehicle went really well however it rapidly declined come the period when other automobile manufacturers started constructing and introducing to the market all wheel drivers and V6 engines.

In 1996, this vehicle underwent a refreshing. The I4 engine went into retirement and it was replaced with a similar engine – a 2.5 liter unit. Come the year 2000, the Mazda MPV came with a front wheel drive LW platform that was based on the Mazda 626. This set of Mazda MPVs was considered to be the second in this model’s generation. It came this time to be more traditional than the first batch. It held sliding rear doors and a front wheel drive. However, what was different for this generation includes a rear seat that folds flat into the floor and rear door windows that are rolled down. In 2002, the changes for the vehicle included a change in power by using the Mazda AJ 3.0 liter V6 engine along with a 5-speed automatic transmission. This now has the capacity to produce 200 horsepower and 200 pound feet of torque.

A caravan is a group of travelers or merchants banded together and organized for joint support and protection while traveling through unsettled or unfriendly country. Caravan trade, however, is associated with the history of the Middle East as far back as the records of ancient civilizations extend. The caravan trade was very well developed before the idea of sea commerce was ever considered.

The history of the caravan trades people has shown how well organized these groups of people were. The caravans crossed great distances across the unsettled desert trails, with little or no protection from the local governments.

The main modes of transportation were camels throughout the Arabian Peninsula. Camels could withstand the desert heat, and go numerous days without water,

The caravans were fundamental for the trade industry to prosper. The caravans worked under the regulation of the Arabian Empire. The Empire controlled their routes and tried to afford them some protection.

After the introduction of the motor truck and the airplane, the hardship of crossing the desert on foot or on came, has evolved to driving the truck to the marketplace to sell your goods. This is evident when you go to the flea markets of today, there are numerous vendors (what could have been called merchant caravans in middle east history) that travel from town to town bringing there goods to sell, trade or barter.

Webster’s dictionary defines caravan as: “a company of travelers on a journey through desert or hostile regions”, “a group of vehicles traveling together in a file”, and “a covered wagon or motor vehicle equipped as traveling living quarters”. As you can see by this definition, the term caravan has evolved into the 21st century. Just look around and you will see motor home caravans, semi-truck caravans, motorcycle caravans, all of these groups are traveling from one destination to another.

So hop in your Dodge Caravan and go for a ride. How much merchandise can you fit into it? Gather up some friends that have a Dodge Caravan and you could be caravan (a group of travelers on a journey).

ATV whips aren’t cool unless they’re safe. Safety should always be the first concern when you want to think about putting a whip on your quad, for visibility if you are stalled or hurt and need to be found. While they are typically only required to be on your ATV when you’re on public property – especially on the dunes of California, Utah, Oregon or Washington – it’s not a bad idea to always have them on your own bike and encourage others around you to use them too.

Observing the Rules

When you hear in advance that an ATV whip and flag is required at a location where you want to ride, you’ll need to get the specifics. Is there a rule on the height of the whip? What about the flag – can it be your own personalized favorite or does it need to the safety orange flag? You don’t want to be caught unaware without the right size or type, so do your research. If you like to travel to different sites often and don’t to have to look it up each time, make sure you keep a few options (whip lengths and flags) in your truck or car or even your quad trailer. The dunes and open spaces are where ATV whips are most frequently required, but not as often on trails.

ATV Safety Watchdog Organizations

A couple of national organizations that support safe ATV use have appeared in the last 25 years to ensure maximum safety for users of ATVs. One is the ATV Safety Institute (ASI) and another is Tread Lightly, based in Utah. ASI’s primary goal is to promote the safe and responsible use of ATVs, thereby reducing accidents and injuries that may result from improper ATV operation by the rider. Their golden rules are basic, including use of a helmet and outer wear, staying on designated trails yet off of paved roads except when crossing, not carrying a passenger on a one-rider ATV, riding the correct ATV for your size and age and not indulging in drugs or alcohol when riding. ASI also offers a safety course that is offered across the country that consists of the basics of ATV safety – hills, turns, emergency turns and swerving and riding over obstacles. It is strongly recommended that new ATV riders take the course. Having ATV whips on yours and your family’s quads is one more step in the direction of safety.

The other non-profit organization, Tread Lightly, is directed at all types of outdoor enthusiasts, not just ATV riders, but specifically addresses this population. They encourage planning ahead and being prepared as ASI does.

You can get ATV whips in all kinds of places, including the dealer where you bought it, hardware stores and online. Flagstaff Warning Whips are one brand that comes in multiple colors for both the whip and the flag, and also has a great selection of lighting for the top of it. Flashing and non-flashing, super bright and “worm” lights are available, also in several different colors. ATV whips are made for safety and you can help ensure it.

ATV stereos really add to the experience of your time on the trail. The number of stereos are growing every year. There are a couple of things to keep in mind when picking out the right unit.

One of the first things to consider when looking for a stereo is the durability of the unit. The day to day life of an ATV stereo is going to be a rough one. Therefore, you want to make sure that you buy a unit that is up to your demands.

One of the toughest things is the vibrations that your machine will be transferring into the stereo. Electronics are vulnerable to vibration and moisture. so make sure that the unit that you are looking at is going to be able to handle the elements.

The quality of the sound is also important. Consider if you are going to be listening to your system on a quiet trail ride and campsite, or if you are going to be using it to entertain a group of trail buddies.

If you are looking for personal music than you want to make sure that the unit is able to accept earphones or a helmet mic system. This will allow you to be able to enjoy distortion free music whenever wherever.

If on the other hand, you are going to be using the system to charge the party, than you’ll have other needs. One of these needs will be the capacity and clarity of your speakers.

Speakers are one of the biggest components of your system. Most systems have acceptable power to run most speaker systems. The problem is that most speakers begin to degrade from the environment and physical abuse of riding. The cost of good ATV speakers might be surprising, but it is money well spent.

The head unit is the other important component of the system. The head unit is the most vulnerable component to weather and vibration. This needs to be protected from both. One way to protect the unit from vibration is to make sure that you mount it properly.

There are several ways and places to mount the stereo. When selecting a location consider protecting it from branches and various other shocks. Its mounting hardware should also insulate it from vibration and shocks. Most mounts incorporate rubber bushings that insulate it from slight vibrations, but any additional measures won’t go to waste.

An ATV stereo is a great investment if you buy the right one for your needs and install it correctly.
